Genshin Impact: The Lore

By: Quinn Nordick

Genshin Impact sets its scene in a world called “Teyvat”. Teyvat is the world that the main characters named “Lumine” and “Aether” crash land. After they wake, they attempt to leave, but as they are making their attempt, their path is blocked by an unknown god that ends up separating the two siblings.

In the lore, Lumine gets captured in this blocky like power used by this unknown goddess. Meanwhile Aether gets his powers sealed and then he is sent back down to Teyvat, where he meets his new travel companion, “Paimon,” who tells him about the world he’s now trapped in.
As Paimon tells Aether about the world, they visit a statue of the seven and figure out that he can resonate with all the elements of this world. Most people in the world can only wield one element that requires a thing called a vision.

As Aether travels teyvat, he finds that this world is not as peaceful as it seems. He finds that 500 years ago, there was an ancient civilization called “Khaenri’ah” that was destroyed in a cataclysm. But this cataclysm wasn’t a natural event, Celestia had made the seven archons and sent them down to obliterate all Khaenri’ahns while destroying a man-made empire.

We find out that our twin, Lumine, had woken up before us, and after the cataclysm, they woke us up and were desperate to flee. But why didn’t they wake us up earlier?

It turns out that our twin was busy while we were asleep, because while we were asleep, our twin, Lumine was off becoming the princess of Khaenri’ah. We find this out pretty early, our twin played a major part in Khaenri’ah.

We also find out the entire sky of teyvat is fake. Teyvat is actually known as a world upside-down, were the remains of Khaenri’ah have been buried beneath the ley lines. The people of Khaenri’ah seemingly disappeared, but that’s not all true. The Khaenri’ahns were cursed by the heavenly ruler of death known as “Ronova”. They suffered from the curse of immortality and were turned into monsters.

You know those monsters you’ve been fighting the whole time? Yeah, those were people from an ancient civilization. But not all people were fully effected, playable characters such as “Keaya”, “Albedo”, and “Arlecchino” are from Khaenri’ah. Other nonplayable characters from Khaenri’ah are “Capitano”, “The Jester”, “Dainsleif”, and “Rhinedottir”. Those people may show signs of the curse but are not fully affected.
The archons of this world are not actually the highest power that is, beings from Celestia hold the highest power, known as the Heavenly Principles. These beings establish the order of the world.

Other powerful beings created by the Heavenly Principles are the four shades, the shade of life, death, time, and space. They are extremely powerful, though we find out the shade of space is missing. And actually, you find out she is the unknown god that separated us from our twin.
The full game has yet to be released, as the story keeps growing and growing as time passes. Will we bring justice to the Khaenri’ahns? Or will we continue fighting them?
