Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream

By: Christina Miller

Amazon.com: Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream : Everything Else

I’ve been playing this game for almost a week now, and I seriously enjoy it. It first came out 10 years ago on the 3DS (I never played it on 3DS), but it recently came out for the Switch. The game has gone semi-viral on TikTok, with many people sharing their Mii’s and funny scenes.

The game is somewhat like The Sims, but more kid-friendly. You can add up to 70 Mii’s (residents) on your island. You can name your island and customize your Miis. The goal is to make your Mii’s happy, check in daily to see what relationships they formed with others, and to take care of your Mii’s as well.

The reason why this game is blowing up is because of scenarios that are able to happen. Recently, what I have encountered in my game is a love triangle, which was funny. I honestly did not expect it at all. One of my Mii’s was confessing to another one until this other guy came in and confessed to the girl. Genuinely, I was so thrown off.

The Mii’s are very customizable. Many people use the facepaint feature to add features to their Mii or create something new. I see many artists use this to make very detailed faces of their OCs, celebrities, or fictional characters. You can also change the position of the facial features, so you can also change things or use them for different purposes on your Mii’s. I literally made Shrek by moving facial features.

“I think it’s an amazing game! It’s hilarious, I could watch Hatsune Miku get to first base with Peter Griffin,” Mateo commented.

Every day, the options change for some of the shops. You can buy new foods, clothes, or go to the market. The market changes every morning, afternoon, and night. At the night market usually a mystery bag, which could get you new things for only $50 (in-game money).

If you do buy your Mii’s some new clothes, they can like it or not. When your character dislikes something, there would be a blue cloud, or they would do a sad motion. If the Mii likes what you give it, it would either smile at you or smile and jump in the air. When you’re Mii smiles, it will give you points, which you can add to the fountain.

When your Mii’s like something, you get these orbs, and once you collect enough, you can rank up your fountain. Once you rank up your fountain, you can also get more wishes, which grant you something for free. It lets you get free things and more things to do in the game. It’s very useful if you don’t wanna spend any money in the game since things can be expensive.

When you raise your character’s happiness level, you can give it a new quirk, some goods, and more things you’re able to give them. Quirks can determine how they greet somebody, walk, talk, and more! There are plenty of other things you can do once your character’s happiness level rises, but those are the main things.

The Mii’s can have any one of the 16 personalities. There are plenty of guides on YouTube on how to get all 16. Each one determines how the Mii will interact with other Miis on your island. Personally, I think it’s cool to have these because they can also determine what your Miis do on your island.

Your Mii’s can become best friends and move in together. You can also get even more used to moving in by making more connections and getting them all to move in, which creates a giant apartment. In Tomodachi Life, I have five people living together. When these characters live together, they can have debates. One of the Mii’s will ask you something like “ we should see who is the most___ in this house?” I think it’s very cool and funny to see these situations unfold.

The rooms are also customizable in the apartments and the houses. Your Mii can tell you if it likes it or not. The designs are very cool, and you can also make your own designs in the palette workshop. You can do interior and exterior designs.

Overall, I’ve been playing the game for a few weeks now, and I personally love it because of the funny moments you can have with the characters and because the game’s very customizable Miis. I think this is a really good game if you like Sims and the original game. If you’re a cozy gamer, I recommend this for you since it’s a sit-down game and is calming to play.

Dogs Improve Your Mental Health?

By: Christina Miller

Dogs are a part of many people’s lives and families. For example, I have 4 dogs, and I feel as though they have improved my mental health. But how? What are the reasons?

According to the Mayo Clinic Health System, “Owning a dog has been linked to better mental health and a lower perception of social isolation [in addition to making people] less likely to experience depression.” Dogs will always be beside you. These animals show you a bunch of love and kindness. Having someone who’s always with you can help you feel more relaxed and safe.

Dogs are able to keep you moving. You can take them on walks or runs, which can help with exercise and being healthier. Dog owners have 54% more of the daily exercise requirements. Mayo Clinic Health System says, “Dogs give you a reason to go outside, breathe in fresh air, and get some physical activity.” This can also help reduce stress because exercise helps you release stress.

If you ever feel lonely, they can even be your companion. Dogs can make you feel like you have someone with you and support you. These animals give you love and care. Dog owners say that animals give them a sense of purpose during hard times.

They can help you be more productive. The American Heart Association shows a study that says pets in the workplace help reduce stress. The reduction of stress that the feeling of being ready makes it so that you can focus.

Creating a route can help many people. Dogs can help create a routine and make it so you have something to do every day, and keep yourself organized.

Overall, dogs are very helpful to have. They can reduce negative feelings.

Reasons Why I Hate AI

By: Christina Miller

Many of us use AI in our daily lives without even noticing. Whenever you use your GPS, you are using AI to show you directions. Using that type of AI can be helpful and isn’t the worst thing about AI. But AI can result in harmful things.

People are using generative AI in harmful and potentially dangerous ways. You can make many images and texts that seem very real. It can cause bad situations.

AI can make images. Others can use it to make deep fake videos of real people. For example, what if someone sends you a message saying that they will leak a video of you that isn’t even real but looks very believable? It can cause scenarios like this to happen, which isn’t safe for people online.

Many predators online can also use this feature to make inappropriate deepfakes of minors and adults. It can destroy privacy and could lead to consequences. This can make others feel sad and violated.

There is a thing called AI “art” which isn’t really art. All you have to do is ask the AI to generate an image that looks presentable. AI has been causing artists to run short on money because people are starting to use AI, as on some sites, it’s free to make an image. Real art has emotion that an AI can not replace. I recommend people commission artists instead of having AI make it for you.

On the topic of artists losing their jobs, you could lose yours, too. Many fast food restaurants are using AI to take your orders. This can take many jobs. Some people may not be able to get jobs because of AI replacing employees. For instance, what if you worked as a cashier and were getting paid enough to make ends meet until an AI came in and took your job away? AI taking jobs could have negative effects on the economy.

Generating content with AI can also lead to plagiarism. AI takes from the internet, like the way someone writes. So you could be copying someone without even knowing it by using generative AI.

When you use AI to generate text, it can also lead to misinformation. As said earlier, it takes from all around the internet, and even things that might be rumors and not confirmed. AI can spread this misinformation, making others think it’s real.

Using AI doesn’t really allow us to think. All you have to do is put in a prompt and generate it with no brain power. Many in the younger generation have become less intelligent because of this. It takes away our creativity and thoughts. AI doesn’t have the raw emotion we humans have.

Generating prompts for AI uses up water. This causes more pollution than we already have (which is a lot). Houses by AI servers are losing clean water due to the terrible pollution. Each time you enter a prompt, it wastes about one bottle. Per day, AI uses gallons of water. The water is used for cooling the AI systems.

Overall, we shouldn’t be using AI anymore to protect ourselves and the environment around us. Without AI, we can have more creativity and rely less on technology. AI will destroy humanity if we don’t get rid of it from our lives soon.
